I think the New Yorker showed the better side of life in camp. This is

My Dad's uncle (his mother's brother) Yonehisa Yamagami is near the 
bottom.  We have that portrait hanging at my parents' home in Denver.  
The only person in our family to have a portrait by Ansel Adams and to 
be in the Library of Congress!  My brother looks a lot Uncle Yon.

If you're interested, there is a movie called, "Only the Brave" which 
tells the story of the 100th/442nd heroes.

Members of the military who served were honored with medals more than 60 
years after the war.  My father in law was part of MIS and helped 
rebuild Japan after the war.  We went to the ceremony in Honolulu and 
were uplifted by the fact that they were honored, but saddened by the 
fact that so many had died prior to receiving recognition.

My mother's side of the family was lucky because my grandmother's 
brother served in combat and survived the war.  He never spoke about his 
experiences and became a very devout Mormon after the war.

So, extreme prejudice touched both sides of my family and my husband's 
family within the last two generations, but it doesn't cloud life now.

I wish people would cool down and save their energy to oppose the 
government when it actually acts inappropriately instead of hysterically 
protesting and trying to block everything the new administration does.  
Instead of blocking cabinet appointments, they should approve the 
appointment and then build a case against the person based on his/her 
actions.  By being obstructionists, the progressives are providing an 
excuse for the Republicans if their policies fail.
