I just published an article that may be of interest to many on this list:
Stop Funding Data for Superman Systems! Improve Local Awareness Instead
https://medium.com/digital-diplomacy/stop-funding-data-for-superman-systems-improve-local-awareness-instead-2cab1b95879a#.2ezxyp9bc
The main idea is we're spending millions to get decision makers in charge
of funding smarter so they can tell others in developed countries how to
solve their problems. This is maybe not the best investment strategy for
making progress on the SDGs.
This paper is a call to action that perhaps we should be spending the money
on the decision making of those affected instead.
It's a pretty short top discussion of the problem and call to action. The
back half provides a number of experiments folks can do to improve the
local social good environment. These include:
- Methods for improving data relevancy
- Assessing the social good environment
- A local data commons as a civic trust
- Systems ecology view of social good ecosystems
