Want to contribute to solutions for the refugee crisis, but just don't
have time?
The research project I am part of is focused on crowdsourcing
technology development for NGOs so anyone can contribute with small
amounts of time.
We're starting with a tech project (defined with Catholic Charities
Refugee Resettlement at
http://catholiccharitiesscc.org/refugee-resettlement) to help refugees
integrate into their host communities (details below). They are
excited to deploy it once it is built. If successful, the plan is to
then include you in the process of rolling it out across the US!

Local Guides
The State Department requires all refugee agencies to provide cultural
orientation to help refugees integrate into their communities.
Unfortunately, this is currently done in-person which is difficult for
refugees since many end up finding housing up to 3 hours away. It is
also very limited in scope due to time constraints. In partnership
with the Catholic Charities refugee resettlement agency, we have
created a draft spec + prototype of an online cultural orientation
platform to solve this problem. They are excited to deploy it once we
build it. If successful, the plan is to then include you in the
process of rolling it out across the US!
If you want more details, you can browse the initial specs + prototype
