The Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity (CLTC) at UC Berkeley has recently
listed two jobs -- a Special Assistant to the Director, and, jointly with
the School of Information (I School), a Project Scientist to assist in
developing educational programming.

The Project Scientist <https://aprecruit.berkeley.edu/apply/JPF00996> will
contribute substantively to the CLTC cybersecurity research agenda and lead
efforts to build cybersecurity educational programs at UC Berkeley. In
addition to performing research, the Project Scientist will work closely
with the CLTC and I School leadership to prepare a detailed academic
proposal for new graduate educational programs in cybersecurity, including
an intellectual justification for initiating these programs at UC Berkeley.
The researcher will work to build a community of UC Berkeley faculty who
are interested in working on long-term cybersecurity issues and trends. A
PhD is required for this position, and the salary range (commensurate with
experience) is $78,700-$149,200.

The Special Assistant

will play a critical role in helping to develop and expand the role of the
CLTC on campus by providing a wide range of support, which includes doing
research tasks, scheduling appointments, facilitating communication,
composing correspondence, tracking projects and coordinating travel
arrangements. The Special Assistant will be tasked with managing the
general operations of the Center. The Special Assistant also will be in
charge of maintaining the CLTC’s grant allocation program, including
managing complicated grant applications and ensuring funds are
appropriately allocated. The incumbent will maintain CLTC’s outreach
databases containing sensitive lists of officials in the cybersecurity
community and will ensure that CLTC maintains regular contact with those
individuals. An undergraduate degree is required (advanced degree is a
plus), an interest in cybersecurity is welcome but not necessary, and the
tentative salary range is $41,000-65,000 (though salary should not dissuade
a candidate from applying).

The CLTC was established with a $15M grant from the William and Flora
Hewlett Foundation to Berkeley to support the building of a new field of
cyber-security research that is multi- disciplinary and global in scope,
and that contributes to shaping long term policy in the field.
