Dear Liberation Tech Colleagues,
(Putting on my TNB hat.)
Tech Networks of Boston (also known as TNB) is pleased to invite local
employees of nonprofit organizations to a Roundtable session on making
nonprofit data fun and using data to bring people together. Our featured
guest will be Rahul Bhargava, a research scientist at MIT's Center for
Civic Media.
Here’s what Rahul says about this session:
“You’ve heard the hype. You’ve gotten the .xls in your inbox with a
command to be more “data-driven”. Yes, that data can help improve your
operations or decision making, but it can also be used to bring people
together and help spread your message in fun ways! Come talk about real
examples and how you can change your approach to the data you have, or the
data you wish you had.
“Finding stories in your data is hard, and too often boring. We’ll discuss
approaches to playing with your data that help you find the stories that
the important ones for you to tell right now. The hype is right, data
manipulation is a core new skill for social change work, but we’re going to
focus on talking about how to use that new skill in the right way to
reinforce your message and create the change you want in the world.”
Here's a bit about Rahul, who is also known as @rahulbot:
Rahul Bhargava leads hands-on data workshops around the world. In his
current role as research scientist at the MIT Center for Civic Media, he
manages development and outreach for a number of participatory data
projects. His Data Therapy workshops have been bringing people together
around data with engaging activities for over 10 years. Bhargava combines a
background in interactive robotics, popular education, and effective data
presentation to build creative and playful activities that introduce data
literacy in appropriate ways to a variety of audiences. He is a
technologist, educator, and father based in Somerville, Mass.
Please note:
1) In keeping with the spirit of the TNB Roundtable series, this session
will NOT be a sales pitch for any product or service. It will be a
professional development opportunity for nonprofit professionals who want
to learn with and from their peers in other organizations.|
2) This session is for employees of nonprofit organizations. It is not
designed to meet the needs of vendors, volunteers, students, consultants,
job-seekers, and others.
3) Priority in registration will be given to those who are employed by
nonprofit organizations that hold full membership in the Massachusetts
Nonprofit Network.
4) Participation in this session is free of charge for nonprofit
professionals. However, you must have a confirmed reservation in order to
attend.
5) If this session is booked to capacity by the time you seek to register
for it, please go ahead and put yourself on the waiting list. We have a
good track record of finding seats for nonprofit professionals on the
waiting list.
