another option is to use tor with a tor friendly email provider + gpg.
vfemail.net (fairly stable uptime), sigaint.org and bitmessage.ch all
offer email over tor hidden services (.onion). combine that with gpg
and, while a bit of a learning curve, a pretty strong combo of anonymity
and privacy for email communications. if one wants to take it further,
use mixmaster on top of it. using whonix makes this an easier task.
aware that this is a more complex solution. but it's one worth
considering if one has the time to learn.
