[liberationtech] Iran says: we can monitor Viber and Whatsapp

Hi,
Today, Iran's Chief of cyber police warned people who send jokes about The
leader and founder of the Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini
via social media and mobile apps, saying action will taken against those
insulting Khomeini in Viber and Whatsapp[1]. He went on to warn social
media users that the police can monitor these applications.[2]

This is the first time an Iranian official acknowledges that they are
monitoring mobile applications in Iran.
