We learned today that Bill Gates sold the majority of his shares in G4S

We'd like to start by saying thank you to the 1,100+ students who have
signed the petition so far. Today's news is great news for the global cause
of human rights. Our petition has always called on broader action than full
divestment from G4S, which the Foundation has yet to do. Please sign our
petition <https://sites.google.com/a/stanford.edu/gatesatstanford/home> as
we continue the push for:

   -

   complete divestment from G4S, not simply below the threshold required to
   publicly report the investment;
   -

   reevaluation of Trust investments in companies under investigation for
   human rights abuses, as well as companies that maintain ​compromising
   practices such as privatized prisons, military contracting, exploitation
   of workers;
   - and publication of the Trust's policy of socially responsible
   investment detailing: 1) what the foundation considers ethical
   investments; 2) how it will guard against supporting unethical practices;
   and 3) how it will respond to unethical companies already within its
   endowment.


We believe that a more public and transparent explanation of the Trust's
ethical investment policies will benefit everyone through increased
accountability.
