The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) is
currently seeking passionate and entrepreneurial applicants for *one
part-time* project assistant for summer 2014 (to start as early as late -
May). NDI's Governance team serves as a resource and adviser for NDI’s
parliamentary and local government programs, focusing on the promotion of
transparent, efficient and accountable lawmaking, as well as responsive and
accessible governance.
Project assistants will support NDI's ongoing Bay Area outreach and
technology for democracy projects. Project assistants must be disciplined,
self-starters who can work independently. Project assistants are normally
brought on for three month cycles, with the option to extend depending on
performance and fit.
*ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
- Identify new partners and provide recommendation on engagement
opportunity;
- Research and write concise reports on trends related to civic
technology and technology for democracy;
- Create strategic presentations;
- Attend events related to democracy, governance, accountability and
politics;
- Provide administrative support (accounting, mailings, etc.) to Silicon
Valley Partnerships Representative;
- Update database of organizational contacts and experts; and
- Lead special projects as needed.
*REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in development
studies, public policy, international affairs, political science or a
related field; recent graduates are also encouraged to apply;
- Foreign language skills or previous international experience is
desirable;
- Technology industry or political experience preferred.
- Exceptional interpersonal and diplomatic skills and ability to
interact effectively with Silicon Valley partners, US and foreign
government personnel, foreign dignitaries and NGO community;
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
simultaneously;
- Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to solve problems creatively;
- Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to present information
effectively and respond to questions;
- Capacity to work both independently and as a member of a team;
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw
valid conclusions;
- Working knowledge of PC-based word processing and spreadsheet
applications;
- Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures.

This is a paid internship. Applications are now being accepted for the
summer 2014 intern cycle.
