depends, if you do not mind 'the network' knowing what information you
are interested in, you do not need it. If you do mind sharing your
interests with 'the network', then https is at least a step in making
that harder.
There are lots of reasons why it would make sense to hide what public
information you are looking for, why it is great google and wikipedia
support https to look for their public content.
