Want to observe a revolt in vitro, a few first world problems? We've seen
examples of plagues running through virtual worlds as epidemiology models
-- well, here's an interesting "life, liberty, property" version.
In Second Life, artists have always retained rights to their creations, and
been able to profit in the real money economy from those creations.
Linden Labs changed their TOS without notice on 8/15 to own all those
creators' artistic properties on unlimited, perpetual, transferable
license. Then, they apologized and said, it was just scary legal words and
they wouldn't really do anything bad with it.
Having worked in licensing, and being familiar with limited licenses (which
this definitively is not), I am calling bullshit, blacking out our sim, and
calling on them to change the TOS or face outmigration.
In 12h, I have stories in process in two of the major SL media blogs.
