[liberationtech] A Static Website Generator fit for Tails

Reading around on mailing lists that are for privacy concerned people I discovered a wonderful concept: static web generators. Far nicer than Wordpress or Movable Type. The remind me on LaTeX vs Microsoft Word. But I notice there is a large list and they are quite alike and quite different in many, sometimes subtle, ways.

I would like to cut some corners and cheat a little bit with your help. I don't want to learn how to use many. Just one if possible.

I'm fairly fluent in markdown and that's the only way I would do the articles. I was ready to think site generator is all I want. But than I started thinking why not move from wordpress.com to any site? So blogging would be nice. But it's not a must.

I would like to have the system within Tails. And Tails is rightfully fussy about messing around with configuration. So far I was checking jekyll, because GitHub uses it. It looks quite nice and quite clear. With good documentation. But looking on the requirements, one must install ruby, not sure if ruby comes in Tails, than a ruby package manager to install all libraries needed. Than python for the syntax highlighting. *So it should be something simple from a dependency standpoint.* Just unzip the files, give it the site source folder and let it make the site files, which I am going to sync with the server myself.
