Hey, guys!
We had a great meeting at Sudo Room last night, organizing around
preventing the $7 million spy center, run by the Department of Homeland
Security and the Oakland Police Department, from being built in Oakland.
This NSA-style surveillance center will filter social media, car license
plates, CCTV surveillance camera feeds, and phone calls, all in a
central location. The Domain Awareness Center (DAC) as it's called, is
an unprecedented attack on our civil liberties, giving the police
department unlimited access to our whereabouts. This has already made
national news, being featured in the New York Times, ArsTechnica, and by
the EFF. In light of the violent crackdown on Occupy Oakland, the Oscar
Grant murder, and Oakland's LONG history of having the most corrupt law
enforcement in the nation (e.g. the car bombing of Judi Bari and Darryl
Cherney, the murders of Black Panther Party members, ad infinitum), it's
clear that Oakland's law enforcement is unfit to be entrusted with the
tools they ALREADY have, let alone Orwellian surveillance equipment.
WE CAN STOP THIS! LET'S SHOW THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE PEOPLE OF THE BAY
AREA ARE AGAINST WARRANTLESS SURVEILLANCE AND POLICE INTRUSION INTO OUR
LIVES!!!
Rally at Oakland City Hall at 5:30pm this Tuesday, Nov. 19th. At 6:30pm,
the city hall meeting begins and we will be there in droves to speak up
before them against this.
