I don't think anyone is assuming that Ecuador is a bright and shining
city on a hill when it comes to civil liberties.  What it is is a
tactically and potentially strategically useful jurisdiction for a
specific class of people in some situations.  As with Hong Kong and
Russia, I wouldn't assume that anyone is endorsing it as such.

I mean, if they are, yes, they should go do some reading, but that's
just not germane to the conversation for the most part, unless we're
talking about civil rights in a whole pile of other places as well.
