That actually sounds a lot like what I'm trying to get at.
Sorry, if I'm not clearly communicating this.

At the very minimum what I would like to have are two technologies, one
for producing shelter, one for producing food - both of which should be
open sourced and affordable for small communities.

Being completely independent from the current economy just wouldn't
work, at least not for a pretty long time. It would not be the goal of
this 'project', but might come to pass at a (much) later time.


The motivation would be that

a) People (especially the poor depending on state-welfare) could more
openly speak out against their governments without fear of getting
evicted etc.

b) People who are interested in this could use this technology to work
a whole lot less since they wouldn't have to pay large amounts of their
earnings for food and shelter. This would also enable them to invest
some of the won time into refining this technology.

c) If and when a government fails, these technologies could act as a
safety net for the people, avoiding or at least diminishing humanitarian
crises.

d) Food and shelter for *everyone*. If the technology would be available
and efficient enough we would have abundance of the base needs for all
people for the first time in history. I think this in itself would
already be worth it. I mean, solving world hunger - what worthier goal
is there?



I'll be at the OHM in July/August, if anyone wants to talk about this
sort of stuff, I'd love to do so.
