Hi,

Your most important question was "What is GNUnet"?

My answer: "Exactly."

The fact is, as too many projects, GNUnet is rather unknown even in the
techie community. It is a project that implements a great many concepts
that others only announce. GNUnet is very much not a prototype, but
neither is it "a tool" that could be simply used. IMO, it is something
to build upon. What is needed is people taking the libraries and build
on them. This makes it worthwhile in its own right.

(Disclaimer: I am not a GNUnet dev myself, although I am both
spiritually and physically close to the group and have collaborated with
them in the past. I do not agree with all parts of their
decentralisation philosophy either, but that is really academic.)
