Facebook fully understands that the only thing that matters is user safety, i.e. users have control over their public image and how the community perceives them, and are not embarrassed or humiliated by content shared by them or their friends. This is the only trust that Facebook must maintain in order to keep users at bay.
Eventually, it's all about participating in society. The value of the service is that, for the most part, it _is_ society, and people will not give that up easily.
