Small nitpick, but only PGP (probably a better alternative is gpg)
really deals with email encryption. Truecrypt is for files and FDE. I
mean, you could attach encrypted text messages to an email, but then
you'd need a key derivation and sharing schedule, which would need an
out of band communication.

decent overview of the use scenarios between gpg and s/mime. Google
translate gives a good translation as well, from what I glanced between
them.
As for deployment, Dan Gillmore seems to feel that
