Dear colleagues,
We're proud to announce Tavaana's new off-shoot project, TavaanaTECH
www.tech.tavaana.org
We would be grateful for your review, feedback and suggestions! Please
keep in mind this is a soft launch and we are continuing to add content and
work out kinks.
TavaanaTECH provides Iranians with timely, reliable guidance on all manner
of technology issues and particularly those related to digital safety and
Internet freedom. Anyone can access the carefully vetted, Iran specific
tips on circumventing government filtering, guarding against hacking and
surveillance, using mobile devices more safely, and much more.
Iranians can benefit from TavaanaTECH's regular analysis of the Iranian
government's policies affecting the Internet and technology, and submit
(anonymously) any tech related question they have for the TavaanaTECH team
to answer. This Persian language service is the first of its kind, and our
hope is that with your engagement it can grow to make Iranian civil society
better equipped to employ technology more safely and sustainably in the
struggle for democracy and human rights.
Alongside TavaanaTECH, we've recently launched a series of animated public
service announcements on digital safety. Several times each week, a
general audience of over 20 million Iranians are watching these animated
PSAs on Iranian satellite TV channels, as well as on Tavaana, TavaanaTECH,
Tavaana's YouTube channel, Tavaana social networks and on popular portals
such as as Balatarin and Gooya.
The first three of these PSAs explore 1) establishing general computer
safety, 2) ensuring optimum security hygiene on Gmail, and 3) using mobile
phones more safely. More PSAs on digital safety will be coming soon,
including on the Iranian regime's propaganda of fear and misinformation
related to technology.
This is my first ever post on the LiberationTech listserv and wanted you
all to know how much I appreciate your knowledge and sense of community.
Thank you for this opportunity to share and learn.
Mariam
