A key recommendations when visiting countries where repression against activists is well documented is to minimize exposure of data, be it from your devices or social media accounts
(1) travel pc's
Machines can get compromised by malware, theft or sabotage. As such, steps should be taken to minimize exposing your data (files, accounts, etc) to unauthorized 3rd parties..
- If travelling with one's own computer/device (phone, tablet, etc)
before departing home/safe location, make backup of your computer and reinstall default operating system. Use fresh install of OS while away. Upon return nuke the computer and reinstall from backup.
- If you have an device that is designated for travelling (which is the preferred option) , travel with a fresh install and nuke upon return
(2) Social media
Don't use your normal account. Use a "burner" social media account.
Yes it's great to post pictures & post updates when you are travelling, but remember that you are not only risking a compromise of your own account - but also exposing your likely very sensitive social network. Not worth the risk ...

Robert
