Well, Ayn Rand certainly didn't mind living off government assistance
once she got sick! Such inconsistency certainly piques one's
curiosity. Libertarians are most vocal in well-off Western countries
that became strong through centralized economic policies and tight
control of trade with other countries. I doubt there are many
libertarians in Somalia, for instance. Liberals are very vocal in
countries that thrived through colonialism, genocide of indigenous
population, and power politics, where they are free to both enjoy a
high quality of life *and* profess their radically reformist views.
Gun fetishism is mostly popular in countries that didn't fight a war
of survival for hundreds of years, among people who are otherwise
unable to comprehend the idea of fulfilling orders and collectively
functioning as a military unit. Etc., etc. It's almost as if dearth of
relevant stimuli provokes individuals to shift their tolerance trigger
into the land of the irrational.
