Hi and Happy New Years!

If you have an organization that needs help from a programmer, I wanted to
let you know about some opportunities to get help from Code the Change.

*Events*
We're having two Code Jams in winter quarter where computer scientists will
program for social change. We have an 8 hour event on January 21 at noon
and a 24 hour event on February 11 at 1pm.

We are experimenting with a free-form model for our January Code Jam:
rather than being assigned projects in advance, programmers will form
project groups on the day of the event. We will list projects on our
website so that interested programmers can work on them, but we can't
guarantee participation.

The information that you need to sign up is at
http://codethechange.org/organizations. Our guidelines for a Code Jam
project are at http://codethechange.org/organizations/code-jams and the
application itself is at
http://codethechange.org/organizations/code-jam-application. We will post
projects for our January Code Jam on January 15, and we will post projects
for our February Code Jam on January 29.

*Get Long Term Volunteers*
We have some programmers interested in volunteering their time and others
interested in internships. Some of them are fairly inexperienced and hope
to teach themselves more about programming and helping your organization
out. Others are more experienced and are just looking for an opportunity
to give back.

If you would be interested in getting someone to volunteer their time for
your organization over a longer term basis, send me an email, and I'll pass
the word along. Guidelines for writing this email are at
http://codethechange.org/organizations/long-term.

*Emails*
Also, if you're interested in receiving communication about events and
opportunities for organizations, please sign up for our email list at
http://groups.google.com/group/code-the-change-projects.

If you have questions about any of this, please let me know!

PS - If you're a computer scientist interested in participating, all of our
information is at codethechange.org, or you can send me an email.
