[liberationtech] Secure hosted mail

I've found you generally cannot trust any e-mail provider.

What I did for my "other" e-mail account is setup a free axigen webmail
server behind a pfsense gateway to receive and store e-mail in a decent
webmail solution.

I had a problem sending e-mails because I was on a
residential dynamic cable modem IP, and found that most e-mail providers
blacklisted  residential  IP addresses.

To remedy this, I setup the same domain on a cPanel server that I already
had and just used the SMTP function on that server (which also has reverse
DNS records for the servers hostname) and I could then send e-mails as well
as receive.

This way, you can run your mail server on a Windows computer or Xen VPS
that has truecrypt full disk encryption active locally. I would like to
later wire in a push button switch that attaches though a hole drilled into
the bottom of  one of the PC case's rubber feet, and then wire it into the
power supply so if the case is moved or picked up it will automatically
switch off.
