===Call for Submissions===****

The Transformative Learning Technologies Lab invites submissions for its
second FabLearn annual conference, to be held on October 17th - 18th, 2012
at Stanford University. FabLearn is a venue for educators, policy-makers,
students, designers, researchers, and makers to present, discuss, and learn
about digital fabrication in education, the “makers” culture, and hands-on
learning. We are seeking submissions for contributors to our Workshops, New
Technologies Panel, Research Panel, Educator Panel, and Demo Session.****

--Deadlines--****

Submissions are due by August 28th, 2012 by 11:59pm (PDT). Notification of
accepted proposals will happen by September 9th, 2012. A limited number of
travel grants will be provided for some participants based on need and
funding.****

--Types of Submissions--****

** **

Workshops (to be held on Wednesday, October 17th, 2012)****

** **

For educators and designers to lead a 2-hour workshop demonstrating digital
fabrication and/or hands-on learning activities used in classrooms,
museums, and any other type of learning space.****

** **

Talks and Demos (to be held on Thursday, October 18th, 2012)****

** **

- New Technologies Panel****

For developers to discuss new digital fabrication tools, hands-on learning
platforms, and construction kits applicable to education.****

- Research Panel****

For researchers to present current and future projects in the realm of
digital fabrication, hands-on science and engineering, and “making” in
educational settings.****

- Educator Panel****

For teachers, administrators, and program facilitators to reflect on their
experiences with digital fabrication and hands-on learning activities in
classrooms, museums, after school programs, and any other type of learning
space.****

- Demo Session****

For developers to showcase new digital fabrication tools, hands-on learning
platforms, and construction kits applicable to education.****

Submissions for the New Technology Panel will automatically be considered
to the Demo session.****

--Submissions format--****

Word limit: 1000 words and 3 pictures. You can include links for videos as
well.****

File format: PDF (please limit the file size to 3 MB)****

** **

Please include in your PDF submission:****

1. Title (don’t include authors, the submission should be anonymous)****

2. Type of submission****

3. Short abstract (~80 words)****

4. A description of your research, demo, technology, product, learning
space, or implementation. Please indicate how far along your project is.****

5. An explanation of the importance of your submission to the digital
fabrication/makers/hands-on learning communities. What is new about your
work and what is its potential impact?****

6. For workshops, please include the target audience, maximum number of
participants, and all your technology/space needs.****
