Georgetown University invites applications for its 2011–2012 Yahoo!

*THE FELLOWSHIP*

The Yahoo! Fellow pursues activities that explore new communications
technologies in national and global contexts. The Fellow is expected to
consider issues related to international values—including, as examples, free
expression, regulation, challenges to personal privacy, and the role of
civic organizations in a rapidly expanding global conversation about
technology and values—and the diffusion of information in rapidly changing
global environments. These might include large and evolving
economies—including Brazil, Russia, India and China—as well as interactions
between the developing and developed worlds. The Yahoo! Fellow can
investigate how new technologies are shaped by different economic, social
and cultural contexts; how they, in turn, shape these environments; and how
communications technologies do or do not support public values and practices
such as democracy and empowerment.

The Yahoo! Fellow is expected to undertake research and writing, some of
which will be posted on the website of the Institute for the Study of
Diplomacy; organize at least one workshop or conference during each of the
two semesters in residence; work with graduate fellows supported by the same
Yahoo! grant; take advantage of teaching opportunities and other
interactions with the Georgetown student body; and participate in the
professional life of Washington, DC.

The Yahoo! Fellow is associated with the Institute for the Study of
Diplomacy at the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, and
joins other fellows drawn from the United States and abroad. The Institute
provides office space, supplies and administrative support during the
fellowship year.
The Yahoo! Fellow in Residence receives a stipend of $50,000 to support
housing and living expenses for the academic year and $5,000 to cover travel
associated with the appointment. The appointment will cover the period of
August 15, 2011 – May 15, 2012.
