Good afternoon,
My name is Ben Wyskida; I do independent publicity and media work (
http://www.wyskida.org <http://www.wyskida.org%20/>) A journalist and a good
friend of mine, who typically writes about popular culture, asked me if I
had any advice or sources on an article he is writing for Fast Company. The
writer, Mark Harris, is very thoughtful and respectful - he is outstanding
to work with. I didn't have any direct leads but it occurred to me that some
on this list may have experiences they'd like to share one way or the other.
If so, please contact him directly. I hope it's already to post here. Here's
what he sent me - feel free to contact him directly:
For an upcoming article in Fast Company magazine, I'm exploring the
complicated interface between celebrities and charities/non-profits. I'd be
very interested in talking to anyone who has experience with the pros or
cons of using a celebrity as a spokesperson for their organization--when it
works and when it doesn't, and why. I'm especially curious about the tension
between using a famous face to attract people to a worthy cause and running
the risk that the face will end up getting more attention than the cause,
but would love to hear the positives as well. Naming names is not necessary,
by the way. If you're willing to talk about this, on or off the record, I
hope you'll contact me at MarkEHarrisNYC at gmail.com. Thanks!
