CALL FOR APPLICATIONS 

YAHOO! FELLOW IN RESIDENCE 

SCHOOL OF FOREIGN SERVICE 

GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY, WASHINGTON, DC 

 

Georgetown University invites applications for its 2011-2012 Yahoo!
Fellow-in-Residence, a position supported by the Yahoo! Fund on
International Values, Communications Technology and the Global Internet.
We are seeking applications from scholars, journalists and authors,
government officials, business executives, civic actors, and
entrepreneurs. 

 

THE FELLOWSHIP 

The Yahoo! Fellow purses activities that explore new communications
technologies in national and global contexts. The Fellow is expected to
consider issues related to international values-including, as examples,
free expression, regulation, challenges to personal privacy, and the
role of civic organizations in a rapidly expanding global conversation
about technology and values-and the diffusion of information in rapidly
changing global environments. These might include large and evolving
economies-including Brazil, Russia, India and China-as well as
interactions between the developing and developed worlds. The Yahoo!
Fellow can investigate how new technologies are shaped by different
economic, social and cultural contexts; how they, in turn, shape these
environments; and how communications technologies do or do not support
public values and practices such as democracy and empowerment.

 

APPLICATIONS 

Applications should be imaginative, multidisciplinary, and analytical,
and capable of being completed during the fellowship year. They should
include proposals for projects (and associated conferences or
workshops), and teaching. An advanced degree is not required. However,
for those pursuing graduate work, the degree must be completed and in
hand prior to assuming the fellowship. 

 

Applicants should submit a letter of interest, a statement describing a
proposed project and plan for executing it (not to exceed 2,500 words),
a curriculum vitae, and a course proposal suitable for master's level
students in the School of Foreign Service.
