Yes, we identified that risk when first designing the algorithm.  The
simplest countermeasure is to periodically reset the locations of peers.
 Christian mentions this very briefly in his conclusion but expresses the
concern that it will thwart convergence towards efficient routes.  I don't
share that concern because small world routing is extremely fault-tolerant.
 A single peer in the "wrong" location won't do much harm and should be
corrected quickly enough by the metropolis-hastings location swapping.

This bug alludes to some more recent work on additional precautions but I
admit I haven't been keeping up with it, I'll ping some people and get back
