Yes, it is awesome. I've used it a few places to avoid saturating
the shared 3G network connection. Before I've done some talks/training
sessions, I've put my presentation, videos, and documents needed on it. It
saves 30 people from all trying to download the same stuff at once over
a shared Internet connection. Plus, they can all upload their docs and
share amongst themselves.
I have not tried to connect multiple pirateboxes (poxen?) over mesh
though.
Also, you have to remember that the network and box is wide open. Wifi
reaches surprisingly far. Random people on the street and in neighboring
buildings will both download and upload files.
And frankly, it would be more popular if someone would just sell them
pre-configured and ready to go in two or three form-factors.
