Friends of Hypothes.is,
With the successful Kickstarter campaign behind us, product design is now
underway. One of the most important parts of our design is the reputation
model<http://hypothes.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8e541b1767522351f98c47124&id=5f959a1b9d&e=6738374c92>that
will underpin the system. A reputation model is a way for the user
community to collectively calibrate the contributions of its members. This
is a well-established field of study, with many years of academic research
and practical experience.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Alfred P Sloan Foundation, today we are
announcing both a Workshop and a Fellows program to help us in developing
the best possible model. We know that many of you who have expressed
interest and support for Hypothes.is thus far are active in this field or
are aware of individuals and organizations that are.
The Reputation Fellows program is open to anyone with significant academic
and/or practical experience with reputation model design. Together with
our advisors Paul Resnick & Nate Oostendorp, we will select 6-10 applicants
to join the program. Applications are due by Wed. Jan. 4that midnight
PST. There is a mailing list at
http://bit.ly/appmailinglist<http://hypothes.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=8e541b1767522351f98c47124&id=cad17a9d64&e=6738374c92>where
subsequent announcements and updates will be made.
These Fellows will gather – together with staff, advisors, & leading lights
of the reputation field – for a 3-day workshop, February 22-24 in San
Francisco. Through a combination of dialogue and white-boarding, together
and in breakout groups, the workshop will provide key insights, feedback,
and guidance to Hypothes.is. More details about the workshop & application
information for the fellows program can be found at:

Please help us ensure that qualified candidates are made aware of this
opportunity by forwarding to friends or colleagues in the field and posting
to relevant listservs, and tweeting, etc.
If you have questions or suggestions, don’t hesitate to email us at

Thanks for your continued support!
