hey everyone,

i got clearance from yosem to give you all a final heads up about the
upcoming Contact Summit happening in nyc this october. it's kind of a 'take
back the net' theme, bringing together people who are working on initiatives
around p2p communication, value creation & exchange, social
entrepreneurship, and the general promise of a social web.

<name dropping section>

we have micah sifry & andrew rasiej from Personal Democracy Forum coming,
eli parisier from Moveon.org and others in the ‘gov 2.0’ space... we have a
bunch of people coming to demo the their tech projects - from FreedomBox,
Little Shoot, the Locker Project, Altly, Lantern, Tor, Telecomix, Project
Byzantium... and many initiatives in the spaces of social commerce,
learning, arts, and culture. (here are some participants
http://contactcon.com/participants & projects/organizations
http://contactcon.com/projects attending).

the day will start with a few brief ‘provocations’ to set the tone for the
day, then a bunch of participant-driven discussion sessions (unconference
style), and a 2 hour Bazaar, where people can demo their projects. we’re
also doing an Innovation Awards, where 3 projects will each be rewarded with
$10K prizes to help fund and accelerate their initiatives.

i just wanted to let everyone know about the event, and encourage anyone who
might be working on an innovative project to come and demo your wares. :)

registration is $245, but i’ve created a discount code for subscribers to
this list, which will give you a rate of $199.

discount code: LIBTECH46

those in need can also fill out the scholarship application for the
student/artist rate of $95, here (http://contactcon.com/scholarship)

hope i might meet some of you at the event. here’s the main site -->

let me know if you have any questions

thanks,

venessa miemis
chief community officer, Contact ;)
