I will try and create a new rule set with HTTPS everywhere:
      https://www.eff.org/https-everywhere.

Your tip also works on the Registration page:
      https://www.tumblr.com/register

I have also sent an email query to Tumblr direct to ask them to make it
more explicit that HTTPS can be used to login and register and to ask
for persistent HTTPS when using it's user Dashboard and when visiting
it's hosted blogs.
