Subject: Sunlight Foundation - job opportunity
For those looking for a position in DC - see the position announcement from
the Sunlight Foundation below. Jake is a friend of mine and an amazing guy,
and Sunlight does some great work that I think will be even more important
after the recent Supreme Court decision regarding election financing.
Please tell Jake you heard about the position through my post to the Truman
listserve - he is familiar with the Truman program.
Best wishes,
Jenny

Subject: [My Teammates] Come work with me?
Hey gang,
I really need your help getting this job description for a *media
partnerships manager* *at the Sunlight Foundation* into as many smart,
well-connected, tech-savvy, media-loving hands as possible.
http://transparencyjobs.com/jobs/106/
The gist is that Sunlight has a lot of (free) tools, sites, databases and
applications that are insanely useful in opening up government
- particularly for bloggers, journalists, advocacy groups or activists - we
just need more people to know about what's there (as well as what's on the
way) and use them.
To that end we need a great partnership builder/marketer who can come in,
take all the ideas and relationships already on the table, add a whole bunch
of new ones of their own, and get the whole marketing/partnership plan
implemented. (While trying not to be too distracted by about 50 other very
exciting things going on around here). It will be a very hands-on,
in-the-room, handshakes and smiles, presentations and meetings type job.
Right now Sunlight's "engagement team" - made up of our communications, PR,
content production, and advocacy/organizing - is stretched thin, so while
this new team member will be very well supported with talent and
connections, we need someone to take charge and get Sunlight's goodies out
there to the folks who will actually put them to use.
This is a job that is both immediately necessary for us to grow the way we
must in order to meet our internal growth metrics (that is to say, we're
responsible for meeting a bunch of engagement related goals or bad things
happen), but also pre-emptive in anticipation of a whole new series of
exciting apps and widgets that are being built right now (to be released
through Q2) that will be customizable, embeddable, generally awesome, etc.
One way to think about the ideal candidate for this job is that it would be
the kind of person who if you got an email from them saying, "Hey let's chat
about something cool I'm working on," you would do it for no better reason
than it was that particular person asking you. Also, candidates must
ardently adhere to my very strict no-asshole rule.
Really appreciate any and all help finding an incredible new teammate for us
over here.
jake
ps OTR It's worth noting that while I'm committed to hiring the best
possible candidate, I'd really love to add some diversity to the mix in our
office.
