Causes is a mission-driven start-up dedicated to empowering anyone with
passion for change to impact the world. We do this by building tools for
individuals to mobilize their network of friends to grow lasting social and
political movements. We are currently the largest online platform for
activism, with over 100 million registered users, 400,000 user created
causes and $18 million raised for charity through our application on
Facebook. We are well funded and also have strong and diversified revenues.
Though we have enjoyed rapid growth, we are still a small team. There are
16 of us total, including 9 members of the engineering team. We are devoted
to bringing the best of Silicon Valley engineering and product design to the
world of activism and philanthropy, and have assembled a team that can go
toe to toe with any around. Keeping in line with this goal, we have grown
our team slowly and deliberately. We think we provide a unique opportunity
for an engineer. Most companies with our user adoption already have 50 plus
employees and so do not offer the chance for immediate contribution, while
most companies as small as us do not have nearly the user reach. Here you
will get to quickly become a critical member of our team; we have projects
we need worked on immediately that will be used by millions of users. And
all of this in service not of a vague notion of changing the world, but a
very deliberate mission.
Causes was founded by Joe Green and Sean Parker. Sean is one of the most
successful entrepreneurs and product thinkers in the consumer internet,
having co-founded Napster and Plaxo and serving as Founding President of
Facebook. He was inspired to start Causes to bring all he had learned to
bear on the mission of empowering individuals. Joe's background is as a
grassroots political organizer, building movements on the ground the
old-fashioned way, which serves as a nice complement to Sean's experience
when we are designing the Causes product. We are backed by some of the top
investors in Silicon Valley, including Peter Thiel (Founders Fund) and Scott
Bannister (Founder of Ironport), and some of the most innovative
foundations, including The Case Foundation (Steve Case) and The MCJ
Foundation (Ray Chambers).
