Dear colleagues,
It is a pleasure to announce the publication of our new volume on AI from the Global Majority https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-032-07830-8
The book is the latest Outcome Report of the Data and Artificial Intelligence Governance Coalition of the UN Internet Governance Forum and delivers a crucial, underexplored Global South-centered perspective on AI governance, ethics, and regulation, challenging dominant narratives which are typically shaped by a handful of large corporations and few actors in high-income countries.
The volume aims at amplifying the voices, experiences, and challenges from Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East, discussing concrete solutions tailored to the unique social, economic, and political realities of the Global Majority countries.
The 25 chapters – authored by leading experts, policymakers, and researchers – dives into AI's impact on human rights, democracy, labor, cybersecurity, and digital sovereignty. It tackles pressing issues like algorithmic bias, data governance, disinformation, AI's role in global power asymmetries, and the need for inclusive, ethical policies.
Backed by real-world case studies from 16 countries, it reveals how nations are shaping AI regulation, resisting digital colonialism, and pushing for fairer tech development. Contributors spotlight how AI can perpetuate inequalities, through labor exploitation in supply chains, discriminatory decision-making, and environmental costs, while proposing frameworks for transparency, accountability, and inclusion of marginalized communities.
In case you do not have access to the Springer-Nature repository, a pre-print version of the volume is available in open access here https://cyberbrics.info/pre-print-ai-from-the-global-majority/
Lastly, a gentle reminder that the 2026 DAIG Call for Papers on AI Safety and Security will be open until 15 May and is available on the IGF website https://www.intgovforum.org/en/filedepot_download/288/30344
Feel free to share through your networks!
All the best
Luca
