*** Nigerian Government Intensifies Internet Control Bid After Twitter Ban ***

The Nigerian government has asked that the House of Representatives
pass a law that will enable the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC)
to control all forms of internet broadcasting and social media. Many
Nigerian people believe that this is an attempt to further stifle the
country’s civic discourse  – effectively crushing free speech and
public dissent online.

The government of Sudan has shut down the internet across the nation
during critical exam hours. Cloudflare reports that further shutdowns
are likely on June 24, 26, 27, 29 and 30.

*** US Seizure of Iran-linked Websites ‘Shortsighted’, Analysts Say ***

The US Justice Department seized 36 websites with links to the Iranian
state for engaging in “disinformation campaigns and malign influence
operations”. Observers say the seizure of 36 websites may just lead
Iran to further tighten its internet restrictions.

*** Hong Kong Newspaper “Apple Daily” Forced to Shut ***

The final edition of Hong Kong’s last remaining pro-democracy paper
sold out in hours Thursday, as readers scooped up all 1 million copies
of the Apple Daily, whose closure was yet another sign of China’s
tightening grip on the semi-autonomous city.

existing counter strategies and inspire those yet to come, the
International Research Group on Authoritarianism and
