*** Release of #Istanbul10 but Others Still Incarcerated ***
We received the news of the release of #Istanbul10 with great joy.
However, others have not, including Taner Kılıç, Chair of Amnesty
International Turkey. Taner is charged with “
“membership of the Fethullah Gülen Terrorist Organization.” The charge
is based on allegations that he downloaded and used the ByLock messaging
application, claimed to have been used by the Gülen movement to
communicate. Use the hashtag #FreeTaner to demand his release and keep
current.

***Newmark Foundation Grant To Enable Research By IWMF And TrollBusters
On Online Harassment Of Female Journalists In U.S.***
The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) has just received a
grant from the Craig Newmark Foundation to conduct research in the
United States on online harassment of women journalists. Dr. Michelle
Ferrier, founder of TrollBusters, will be the principal investigator on
the project, while Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin, Metz & Associates (FM3) of
California will provide survey support.

*** FINAL HOURS for Travel Grants Too! ***
The Diversity and Inclusion Fund (DIF) is back to provide travel
assistance opportunities to 2018 IFF session hosts from the Global
South. In addition to Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, MENA, South
Asia and Southeast Asia, we have added Eastern Europe to the fund.

Important Reminder! There can only be one DIF grantee per proposal. This
means that if two people co-host a session, only the person who submits
the proposal is eligible for travel funding. If someone else from your
session wants to apply for the DIF, they will need to submit another
proposal. In order for them to get travel funding through the DIF, that
proposal needs to be accepted.

***Exciting Changes for Signal in the Near Future***
Users of Signal, the end-to-end encrypted communications app, may have
noticed some recent changes and upgrades. Signal recently added video
calling, encrypted profile capabilities, and read receipts. According to
Signal staff, these improvements are largely because of the generous
feedback of beta testers.
