Dear Amigxs:
The Internet Freedom Festival has arrived!!!! Already, many of your
faces have graced Las Naves. We are thrilled to see the magick start to
happen: so much laughter, glitter and work already taking place.
The IFF is designed, managed and lead by the beautiful humans that make
up the Internet Freedom Community. It is also collaboratively shaped to
encourage solidarity and collaboration, and create a safe, welcoming and
fun environment for everybody. Feel free to roll up your sleeves, and
plan:organize:hack:laugh, and or anything else you need to get your job
done.
In addition, and most importantly, make sure to celebrate those around
you! This is the time to connect as humans, and celebrate those things
that make our community so wonderfully colorful. Also, if you are an IFF
old timer, please reach out to new folks, and make sure they feel
comfortable.
We have a few things to share with you before Monday:
________________________________________
***The VENUE***
The Festival will be taking place at Las Naves, located at Carrer de
Joan Verdeguer, 16.
***REGISTRATION***
Please note that ONLY folks that have registered will be allowed into
the venue. If you have not registered, you are welcome to touch base
with us on Monday AFTER 1:15pm. To see if something can be done. We will
not be able to assist unregistered participants until that time. Please
note that we are at capacity, and we may not be able to meet your request.
***SUNDAY @ 1:00pm***
Tomorrow we will be training all volunteers at 1:00pm at Las Naves. In
addition, we need all hands on deck from from 1:00pm to 5:00pm to help
with setup!
***The SCHEDULE***
Please also note that we have two different schedules this year, one for
the main programming and one for self-organized sessions. Please check
out the Wiki, to get links, detail and more:
https://internetfreedomfestival.org/wiki
Please note that the schedule displays in list view by default on mobile
devices. You can always *access the grid view following the download
link on the top of the page*.
***The WIKI***
The IFF Wiki is the organic, living switchboard and information hub for
the IFF. There, you can access important news, the Volunteer Corner, the
Need and Offer, update and refer to notes for individual sessions, and
much more. Please check it out, because this your gateway to making the
most out of the festival: https://internetfreedomfestival.org/wiki
***IFF CULTURE***
The heart of the Festival is its culture. The festival is meant to be a
positive space, where people can gather to share experiences, build
solidarity, and collectively create. That means ALL participants are
hosts and have the responsibility to ensure that those around them feel
safe, are taken care of, and are enjoying themselves. The following
cultural elements are important to the Festival:
* Stay collaborative, positive and open. This is your time to create.
* Practice your cross-cultural communications skills and understand that
not everyone speaks English as a first language.
* Practice tolerance. At the same time, stand up for what is right, and
say something if you see someone being harassed, whether online or
in-person.
* Reach out to new people. You should leave the festival with 5 new
friends :)
* Empower engagement among IFF attendees of the event as this is a
volunteer led, owned and managed event.
***New:Session Role Cards****
Who doesn't love a session that flows smoothly, starts and stops on
time, has equal space for all participants to engage constructively, and
to top it all off, has well-documented notes and action items at the end?
To help everyone get the most out of every session at the IFF, and to
maintain a safe and inclusive space for all, sessions during the IFF
will be using Session Role Cards that will be printed and available in
every room at the IFF - each session will need participants to volunteer
as a Timekeeper, Gatekeeper, and a Notetaker. Check out the wiki
Volunteer Corner on the wiki for more on these roles.
***Self-Organized Events****
If you would like to schedule a self-organized session or help desk,
please check out the directions:

***Code of Conduct***
The Internet Freedom Festival is committed to providing a safe and
welcoming environment for discussing issues related to freedom of
expression. Please make sure to review the Code of Conduct:
https://internetfreedomfestival.org/wiki/index.php/Code_of_Conduct
If you need to reach us offsite, feel free to call the dispatch number
which is available on both Signal and Whatsapp: +12022361426 or via
email at event at internetfreedomfestival.org
***ALLY SKILLS WORKSHOP***
The Internet Freedom Festival will feature Ally Skills Workshops, which
are tailored training & awareness raising sessions to learn and practice
ally skills like listening, amplifying voices, and speaking up when you
see problems.
We have three Ally Skills Workshops scheduled for this week, on a
first-come, first-serve basis. If there are more people than we can
accommodate, we will schedule more Ally’s Workshop sessions. For more
information on the workshops, learn more at:
