Dear friends,

Lots of great momentum this week! Our first AMA on Mattermost was a
success, our Medium publication is actively posting and we’re getting
ready to launch many great initiatives for 2018! Please keep us posted
on what you’re up to and how we can help.

Here are the updates for June 26 - 30:

### IFF 2018: Fellowship Application Deadline THIS WEEK ###

The June 30 deadline for IFF’s 2018 Fellowship application is THIS FRIDAY!

While we’re thrilled at the outpouring of applications for the 2018
Fellowship, there’s still a lot of corners of our community that aren’t
being represented. Help us get the word out so we make sure this year’s
Fellowship Cohort is representative of the leaders and voices of
Internet Freedom!

### News and Updates ###

*** First Mattermost based AMA with Localization Lab and Tor ***

Localization Lab and Tor hosted the first AMA in the IFF Mattermost on
Friday and it was a great success! While there was a huge participation
during the AMA itself, questions keep rolling in and Erin and the team
are doing a great job of addressing them.

What do you think our next “All Questions Answered” event in Mattermost
should be? Does your organization want to host an AQA? Should we do a
regular session for your region? Let us know so we can maximize the use
of this great tool to help with your efforts.

*** Catalysts for Collaboration Launched ***

More and more countries are adopting legislation that threatens human
rights online. The Catalysts for Collaboration website encourages
internet activists to collaborate across disciplinary silos to more
effectively push back against this trend using strategic litigation. It
offers a set of best practices combined with a set of case studies.
Feedback and suggestions – including for further case studies – are
welcome at info at catalystsforcollaboration.org

### Community Stories ###

“After you learn on a touch screen monitor how Silk Road operated in the
deep web, you are asked: ‘Should society be allowed to create technology
that is beyond the reach of law enforcement?’ 56 percent of people said
no. Of course you would say no. In this exhibit, you only learned how
anonymity and encryption were used with malicious intent. People are so
frustrated about terrorism and cybercrime these days that they are
willing to pay the price of security with their privacy.

But there’s something that the exhibit failed to teach you: these tools
also save lives.”

Thanks to Melissa for sharing her experience at the Newseum. Tell us
your story! Reply with a quick “story pitch” of 100 words or less or ask
us for an interview template!
