Hey Everyone,

I wanted to apologize for the chaos this morning, and I plead that
everyone step back and chill out for a while. Some thoughts:

a) We Fucked up
Yes, we should be using FLOSS solutions, and it was a bad decision to
announce on the festival public channel Slack for the various reasons
everyone voiced.


b) Please don't bite the newbies!
I had this same exact situation happen to me when I first joined
Wikipedia. I proposed using a proprietary software and a shit storm
started.  But I was new to the FLOSS community and didn't know all the
culture and ethos. I had to be taught and so do all those that are new
to the community. Our tone as a community affects if new people want to
stay, and it all affects our ability to diversify the space. So please
lets make an effort to NOT assume that everyone has the same experience
or background.


c) Individual vs Collaborative Choices
We try to keep a collaborative environment and allow people to do their
thing and make their own choices. That means that certain people will
choose to use tech that others will not feel comfortable with. However,
as a collective group we should make decisions that everyone feels
comfortable with. As a result, we are truly sorry for not having checked
with everyone first!! Promise it won't happen again!!

Anyway, lets get back to being excited about gathering and celebrating
together!! At the end of the day, the team is working REALLY FUCKING
HARD to ensure you guys have the space to celebrate and work together.
As a mentioned last year, this is a true labor of love that we all do
because we are truly in love with this community!! Lets bring the energy
back to positive!!
