[Festival] IFF's now on Slack!

I want to use tools that work for communication. The fact that a tool
is closed source or operated by a for-profit company doesn't make it a
poor communication tool. The fact that a tool is free software or open
source open source does not make it a good communication tool.
Slack is indeed a *very good* way to communicate and that's why so
many people use it. Many open tools are terrible ways to communicate —
they're hard to use an require a lot of proficiency to use
effectively. As long as we have these debates every time someone wants
to use a commercial tool, we're going to continue to be a terribly
insular community because it will remain impractical for newcomers to
join us.
Criticizing people who are working hard to bring the festival to life
because they “can't come up with anything better” feels like a poor
criticism to me. They did come up with something better — something
better for general communication that's widely used by regular humans
who want to spend their time thinking about each other and what
they're saying, rather than constantly fighting with their tools.
I'm happy to use Slack to coordinate the logistics of the Festival.
