To me there is some truth in both arguments, sure evveryone recognizes
that using slack is not the perfect open and free solution, and not
fully compatible ith what we want to achieve.

I think it is great that the organizers try to broaden the involvement
of a larger group before the festival. And slack is surely at least a
better option than for instance Facebook or Google tools.

On the other hand I do understand why people do not want to be part of
it and exclusion because of that is also not a great thing.

To the practical end of things; would you all feel comfortable if we
would set up a private instance of mattermost
http://www.mattermost.org/open-source-slack-alternative-reaches-1-0/
on our servers for the festival, instead of using Slack?

Cheers, Sacha
