Dear team,
As recommended by Federico, I installed WhisperDesk as a local transcription software. It seems to be working well on a first look.
For anyone who is interested, these are the steps I did to install it on my MacBook:
1. Install Homebrew (if not yet)
Open Terminal (Cmd+Space, type "Terminal", Enter), then paste and press Enter:
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
It will ask for your Mac password (typing shows nothing, that's normal). Official source: https://brew.sh<https://brew.sh/>
2. Add Homebrew to your PATH
When step 1 finishes, it prints "Next steps" with commands to run. On Apple Silicon Macs these are:
echo >> ~/.zprofile
echo 'eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"' >> ~/.zprofile
eval "$(/opt/homebrew/bin/brew shellenv)"
3. Check Homebrew works
brew --version
A version number means you're set.
4. Install FFmpeg
brew install ffmpeg
Takes a few minutes. Done when the prompt returns.
5. Finish in WhisperDesk
Click "I have installed FFmpeg." Transcription now works.
Want this as a file you can save?
