Hi team,

Here some bullet points based on the CPDP paper.
I’m trying out nextcloud so not sure how this works yet: https://uva.works.surf.nl/gf/3rybf/1850439

Let me know on Signal if you cannot open.

Would be great if you could drop comments by Thursday lunch

additional ideas

  * the normative dimension: what would accountability look like at the infrastructural level? the CPDP paper identifies the problem more than it resolves it

  * resistance/contestation angle: how do affected communities push back against infrastructural inequality

  * the regulatory dimension: how are public values inscribed in regulations/policy...

  * the Brazil case: ABDM is great but another case would give the broader argument about DPIs and infrastructural inequality has much wider applicability

  *
...?

Call for Abstracts: Public Values in the Algorithmic Society

AlgoSoc invites contributions for its special issue on Realising public values in the algorithmic society. This issue aims to shift the debate from purely technological to societal perspectives, exploring how AI and algorithmic systems reshape institutions, decision-making, and the roles of professionals and citizens. We welcome submissions addressing whose values are embedded in AI governance, the political economy of algorithmic decision-making, alternative governance models, forward-looking approaches, and new methods to study public values in the algorithmic society.

The special issue is necessarily interdisciplinary, and welcomes submissions taking a theoretical, empirical, legal, or philosophical approach from researchers across law, economics, computer science, communication science, media studies, and beyond.

Deadline: 26 April 2026
