Hey Folks,
We gotten great feedback since last week when publicly announced Coffee
& Circumvention. A few thoughts:
1) I have gone ahead and created two checklists that may be useful to
everyone. The steps here are based on past experience on what has made
local hubs successful. However, see this as only guidance. Also, some of
the roles I've listed, you may only be able to fill once your team
grows. As people want to volunteer, you may want to give them a role, to
make organizing easier for everyone involved (distribution of work).
Both are here:

2) Meetup vs Event
I noticed that many of you have been promoting Coffee & Circumvention
versus the topic of your event. That's fine if you have done so, but I
wanted to give you some other strategies that may be beneficial. In some
cities, like NYC, we promote the event itself versus Coffee &
Circumvention. The reason for this is that each event will attract
different types of people. For example, Christ may only want to come to
events that focus on Tor. Maria may only be interested in events that
focus on Journalism. Carmela may only be interested in events that focus
on digital security. By promoting the event itself versus the name of
the meetup, ti allows you to tap into different types of people, and
grow your mailing list. In NYC, we are planning to tell people during
the event that its part of the Coffee & Circumvention network. This is
only a recommendation! You folks should experiment and see what best
works for your city.
3) Workshop
I am currently finalizing the workshop and will reach out shortly to
pick a date that works for most of you!! If there are any areas you want
to focus on, let me know!!
SUPER EXCITED!!!! Seems like there is alot of movement in all the cities!
Sandy :)
