Hello Everyone:

Greetings from Ithaca! I wanted to share some developments in the project
<https://points.datasociety.net/ai-in-the-global-south-sites-and-vocabularies-e3b67d631508>
on AI in/from the Global South that I have been working on since the
beginning of 2021.

Over the last several months, my colleague Rigoberto Lara Guzmán
<https://datasociety.net/people/guzman-rigoberto-lara/> and I have been
discussing the role of storytelling in crafting good social science
research. We began to wonder how the multiple entities and actors that make
up the planetary AI ecosystem are interacting in/from the Global South. We
have just launched Parables of AI in/from the Global South, a two day
storytelling workshop asking the question: What stories do we tell of a
world that has increasingly come to rely on AI-based data-driven
interventions to resolve social problems?

We would like to invite you to share our *Call for Participation*
<http://datasociety.net/?p=79916> with your community, networks, and
collaborators. *If you feel called to, please consider applying to the
workshop as a **storyteller or as an active listener**.*

Hope the summer is treating all of you very well and that you're all safe
and healthy. I look forward to your applications
<https://data-society.typeform.com/to/EdShNXvT> to our Parables workshop
and continuing conversations of storytelling around AI in the forthcoming
months.

Cheers,
