Dear friends of Big Data from the South
We are very happy to announce the launch of a new initiative giving voice to the troubles and creativity of the South(s) in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The multilingual “COVID-19 from the margins” blog invites contributions reflecting on the first pandemic of the datafied society as it intersects situations of inequality, alterity, poverty ect.
Visit https://data-activism.net/blog-covid-19-from-the-margins/: so far we have articles on the widening data divide in the global South, the perils of biometric social welfare during lockdowns, invisibilized populations (e.g. migrants) in the European continent, the privacy hurdles of newly adopted contact tracing app in India. And more on the way!
Please note: Thanks to the generous funding of the Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis, we are currently able to ***offer a small compensation to authors of accepted blog posts*** who are in precarious job conditions, are students or unemployed, and/or from the Global South. Requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Hurry up: at the moment we have funding for the first twenty posts.
To contribute visit https://data-activism.net/2020/05/how-to-contribute-to-covid-19-from-the-margins/
If you are a funder and want to contribute to this urgent initiative, get in touch with the editors at covid19blog at data-activism.net.
We await your contribution (in any language you might want to write it)!
Best & stay safe, the blog editors Emiliano Treré, Silvia Masiero and Stefania Milan
