[Bigdatasur] Liberating COVID-19 data with volunteers in Brazil

Dear colleagues,
I'd like to share my contribution to a special series about COVID-19 and
Brazil. I focus on the problematic issue of transparency over COVID-19 data
within the federal government, which has made several attempts to limit
access to information. As a response, data activists are collecting,
structuring and liberating more detailed data about COVID-19 than the
federal government. One example comes from the Brasil.IO initiative, a
non-profit organization working with 40 volunteers, whose COVID-19 monitor
is being used as a reference for news outlets, NGOs, academia, and even for
