Hello,
Hope you are well and staying safe.
Apologies for the self-promotion. I just wanted to share some good news.
It was a pleasure to write a post for the blog COVID-19 from the Margins (part of the Big Data from the South Project).
The post is called Resilient Media in Times of Crisis and I discuss some of the points that emerged from community media case studies based in India, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. These cases were presented in a pre-recorded video session that we - Claudia Magallanes Blanco, Vinod Pavarala, Alejandro Barranquero, and I - organised for the Community Communication and Alternative Media (CAM) Section for this year's online IAMCR Conference.
I suggest that resilience is, of course, a wonderful thing, but, whilst acknowledging and praising resilience, we must also bear in mind that community media practitioners and activists need support (a lot of it, actually). It is not enough to have them speak with their own voices if no one in positions of power is willing to listen (as Tanja Dreher noted in "Politics of Listening"). When writing the post, I got a bit carried away, and the text became long, so they had to divide into two two parts.
Part 1 can be found here
Part 2 can be found here

Many thanks to Emiliano Treré for inviting to contribute and to the COVID-19 From the Margins Editorial team, Silvia Masiero and Jeroen de Vos, for all their work :)
Hope you enjoy reading the post.
Best wishes,
Andrea
