[Bigdatasur] 'Data Visualization in Society' edited collection - invitation for proposed contributions

Martin Engebretsen from the University of Agder in Norway and I putting
together an edited collection provisionally called:


*Data visualization in society: the relationships between graphs, charts,
maps and meanings, feeling, engagements.*



The aim of the volume is to explore the forms, functions and applications
of data visualizations – graphs, charts, maps etc. – in distinct arenas in
contemporary society; a 1-page summary is attached. The book project
emerges from a 3-year research project entitled *Innovative Data
Visualization and Visual-Numeric Literacy* (see www.indvil.org)
<http://www.indvil.org%29/>.


We are keen to ensure that our collection features authors from the global
south, and/or authors writing about data visualization in the global south.
The deadline for receipt of 400 word abstracts and 150 word biographical
notes is 1st December and need to be sent to Martin Engebretsen (
martin.engebretsen at uia.no) , but I would encourage anyone interested in
contributing to contact me in the first instance, so we can have an
exchange about the kinds of contributions we are looking for.
